Father Sanchez was truly a man of God and he was revered and loved by the Perez family, especially by my parents - Julio and Amelia. His gentle, peaceful spirit and generous nature touched so many souls and to the Perez children he was a saint-like figure. When Mom passed away she left an unsent letter and a check for him to buy postage stamps so he would continue to write from Rome. I received an email from him letting me know he kept my deceased parents in his daily prayers and to me this was such a special blessing! Rest in peace, Father Sanchez, you served our Lord well and earned our love and respect.

So many good memories! Childhood memories of a young, tall, fun priest visiting our classes weekly at St. Joachim School in the 60's. Sitting at our table sharing a meal & joking with us. Realizing priests are people too!
Organizing fundraiser dinners with my mom, Cruz Chairez & Isabel Avina for an orphanage in Mexico or some other cause.
Introducing us to the Focolare movement. My first trip to Vegas . . . Las Vegas New Mexico that is! Caravanning on my first of many trips to Mariapolis!
For all the adventures along the way, always keeping Jesus in the midst.
Giving without expecting anything in return.
Sharing all his material, spiritual & intellectual gifts.
Always seeing Jesus in everyone he met.
Even while in Italy these last few years, he always remembered his friends/family in Madera & the U. S.. sending postcards, letters, words of wisdom laced with humor. Keeping us always in his prayers.
Your pilgrimage is over Father. Enjoy the Promised Land!
Keep us in your prayers.
With friendship & blessings,
Debbie Chairez

Debbie ... your comments were so well stated. I feel so much the same way. Fr. Lupe was the YLI Chaplain when I was the president, probably in the late 60's or early 70's, and your Mom was very active in the YLI at the same time. He was such an inspiration and help to me during those years. May Fr. Lupe now rest in peace.
