Fresno, CA — Sharon Andersson, 87, of Fresno California passed away Monday morning September 9, 2019 with family by her side at her care home from cancer and a long journey with Alzheimer’s disease.
Sharon was born October 17, 1931, in Lowellville, Ohio, the daughter of the late John and Mary Frech. Sharon was a 1949 graduate of Lowellville High School. She was a valedictorian and was involved in many sports, clubs, and the arts including theater, chorus, and band. From her high school years to her later years even when suffering from memory loss, Sharon had a great sense of humor. Sharon graduated from college with a Bachelor’s Degree and teaching credential from the University of Ohio where she excelled as usual. She soon taught Physical Education in Ohio and later in California.
Sharon was a bit of an adventurer, came with friends to visit California in 1955, and never left. She met Per-Axel Andersson when attending church and soon married him on October 14, 1960 in Montebello, California. Tragically, her husband had an accident at work and sustained a head injury while her children were very young. She was a caregiver to Per-Axel at her home in Hacienda Heights, CA until he died 8 months after his injury in 1971. Sharon went back to college after her husband’s death and eventually became a Resource Specialist and had a long career in the Corona-Norco Unified School district until her retirement. She was known for always going the extra mile in teaching her students with learning disabilities. Sharon loved watching sports and attending Los Angeles Angels games with her children. In her later years, even with the effects of Alzheimer’s, she continued to be an avid consumer of word search and crossword puzzles.
Two children survive Sharon, son John Andersson of Portland Oregon and daughter Lisa Knott and husband Brett of Fresno, CA. She is also survived by her brother John Frech of Ohio and three grandchildren, Kyle Knott (Hannah), Covina CA, Aaron Knott, Clovis CA, and Rachel Quist (Jacob).
The family would like to thank Cedar Creek Senior Living in Madera, CA for 8 years of great care and most recently Green Gables Care Home (Clovis) and St. Agnes Hospice. Sharon chose many years ago, to have her remains laid next to her husband, near her long-time home in Southern California at Rose Hills Memorial Park. The family will have a lunch or dinner celebration shortly after the graveside ceremony in July of 2020.
