Tribute

On Thursday, January 13th, 2022 Wilma Tashjian finished her earthly race and passed peacefully to her eternal Heavenly home. Known for her red hair and sweet countenance, she leaves behind a legacy of kindness, gentleness and love for Jesus Christ, her Savior.

Wilma Dell Lane was born on July 5th, 1928 in Coleman, OK. Her early years were defined by time spent with her close-knit family, which included her older brother Jack and many beloved aunts, uncles and cousins. Her family moved west to California, eventually settling in Chowchilla. After high school, Wilma met her future husband, Edward Tashjian, while visiting her cousins in Madera. They were married on November 15th, 1947 and started their lives together on North “A” Street, just blocks from the Tashjian family’s dry cleaning shop, Simon Cleaners. They were blessed with two beautiful daughters, Jan and Patti. Together, Ed and Wilma operated Simon Cleaners for over 3 decades and were beloved members of the Madera community. After retirement, “Ed and Red”, as their friends knew them, traveled the country in their 5th wheel trailer, making precious memories with their friends, family and beloved grandchildren. In 2010, Ed and Wilma were honored as life-long Maderans and chosen to be “King '' and “Queen” of the Madera Old Timer’s Day celebration. They spent 67 blessed years together before Ed’s passing in 2015.
Wilma carried a zest for life and a love for God until her final breath. Her faith in Christ defined her life and she loved to serve and worship the Lord with her church family at Grace Community Church, where she was a longtime member. In her last years, she remained active at Cedar Creek Senior Living and enjoyed many happy years with lifelong friends.

Wilma is now reunited with her parents, Logan and Della Lane, her brother Jack Lane and her husband, Edward Tashjian. She is survived by her daughters, Jan (Tod) Rush and Patti (Sam) Houston, grandchildren Sam (Nicole) Houston, Janna (Gregg) Cochran, Amy Houston, Layna (Eric) Marshall, and Joel (Erica) Houston, 11 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.

A celebration of Wilma’s life will take place on Friday, January 28th at 1:00 PM at Grace Community Church, 17755 Rd 26 in Madera.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Africa’s Hope ? Grace Community Church missions, a ministry that was very dear to Wilma’s heart.
