Wanda Ruth Veatch went home to be with her Creator, on Sunday, January 14, 2024, at the age of 90.

Wanda Ruth Thompson was born on March 4, 1933, as the first child to Raymond and Thelma Thompson in the tiny town of Doole, Texas. Her family migrated west and planted roots in Madera, California. Wanda graduated from Madera High School in 1950, and married Jim Veatch, also of Madera. Their three children, Kenneth (Butch), Debbie, and Linda, grew up in Madera and also graduated from Madera High School. Wanda worked in the shipping department of Heublein Wines for 25 years before retiring in 1988. Wanda and Jim were active in VFW Post #1981, bowling leagues, and the Madera Country Club. Wanda faithfully followed her beloved San Francisco Giants and Fresno State softball teams.

Wanda was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Jim, parents Raymond and Thelma Thompson, Lonnie (brother) and Alta Thompson. Johnnie (brother) and Hazel Thompson, Tish Rochin (sister), and Annie Loudat (close family friend). She is survived by her brother, Larry Thompson, three children, Kenneth “Butch” Veatch (son), Debbie (daughter) and Wayne Petinak, Linda Veatch (daughter), grandchildren Craig and Rebekah Petinak, Chris and Kelly Petinak, Becky and Aaron Vasquez, Austin Veatch and Stephanie Anderson, and Kayleen Veatch and Dave Drusky, great-grandchildren Hannah Petinak, Lauren Petinak, Cameron Petinak, Kendall Petinak, Auggie Vasquez, Wood Veatch, and Cliff Veatch, and close family friends Maureen Riley and Carla Farias-Millar.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, February 16, 2024, at Jay Chapel (1121 Roberts Avenue, Madera, CA 93637). In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to VFW Auxiliary Post #1981 (2026 N. Granada Drive, Madera CA 93637) or Madera Historical Society (P.O. Box 150, Madera, CA 93639).
