Vickie L. Long was born on November 7, 1958 in Fresno, CA to Charles and Pat Oliver. She passed away from an unforeseen ruptured brain aneurysm on September 19, 2019 at the University of California Medical Center in San Francisco, CA.

Vickie’s childhood was spent between Madera, CA and Tuscon, AZ., and she attended Madera High School. After high school, she settled in the Chowchilla—Le Grand area, where she spent over forty years and raised three children—Michelle, Curtiss and Christopher. When her kids were younger, you could find her many nights and weekends helping with school functions or cheering in the stands during games.

For the past 21 years, Vickie worked at the Central California Women’s Facility as a Supervising Cook. While at CCWF, she met the love of her life, James Long, whom she wed in 1999, gaining two daughters in the process—Ashley and Shannon.

In recent years, Vickie enjoyed spending quality time with family, especially her granddaughters, and weekly Tuesday dinner gatherings with her mother and sisters. She and Jim traveled frequently, often as proud parents to visit their children serving in the Air Force. She was particularly fond of trips to Italy. She enjoyed socializing with her wonderfully supportive friends, weekends away to the coast and attending concerts.

She was preceded in death by her father, Charles Oliver and stepfather, John Riley Bess. She is survived by her husband, James Long; her mother, Pat Bess; and her three children (Michelle Ontiveros of Madera, Curtiss Cobb of San Francisco, and Christopher Cobb of Texas) and two stepdaughters (Ashley and Shannon Long). She is also survived by her two sisters, Sheila Heffington and Charlotte Chapman, both of Chowchilla, and numerous extended family.

A public viewing will be held on Wednesday, September 25, 2019 from 4:00 pm-8:00 pm at Jay Chapel, 1121 Roberts Ave, Madera, CA 93637.

A Celebration of her life will be held on Thursday, September 26, 2019 at 2:00 pm at Cornerstone Church, 208 Fig Tree Rd, Chowchilla, CA 93610.
