Velma Louise Linder

Velma L. Linder passed away on Tuesday, December 18, 2018, at Saint Agnes Medical Center, Fresno, surrounded by her loving family, to rejoin her husband Whitey Linder who preceded her in death in 2011. Velma was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, auntie and friend to all.

Velma was born in Tennessee on August 7, 1927 to Will and Josephine Higdon and was the youngest of eight children. Times were very tough for her family and when Velma was 10 years old, she, her mother, three sisters and a brother left for California. Because she had to work in the fields to help make a living for the family, Velma had never been to school. At age 10 she started school and quit when she was 15 years old.

At age 16, Velma met the love of her life Whitey Linder, who was in the service. On a three-day pass, Velma and Whitey where married in October 1943. After the war ended, Whitey returned home and in 1956 they moved to Madera where they continued to live until each of their deaths.
Velma is a lifetime member of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW Post 1981.

Velma is survived by her son, John Linder and his wife, Barbara of Madera, CA; son, Gene Linder and his wife, Stella of New Braunfels, TX; son, Milton Linder and his wife, Suzanne of Madera, CA; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and their children.

Visitation will be held at Jay Chapel on Wednesday, January 2, 2019 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.

Funeral Services will be held at Jay Chapel, 1121 Roberts Avenue, Madera, CA on Thursday, January 3, 2019 at 10:00 a.m.

Interment to follow at Arbor Vitae Cemetery, Madera, CA.
