Teresa Jessie Martinez

Teresa “Terry” Martinez, age 91 passed away on Saturday, September 5, 2020 in Madera, CA. Terry was born on September 3, 1929 to Paul and Petra Garcia in Madera, CA. Terry was a lifelong residence of Madera and graduated from Madera High School in 1949. Terry was a receptionist at the Madera County Hospital as well as an Office Manager at various doctors and dentist offices here in Madera; she was one of the first three Hispanic women to work in a downtown office in Madera. She loved to read and was an excellent cook. She also owned a farm and cattle ranch for 41 years alongside her husband Salvador. Terry was very involved with St. Joachim Catholic Church, and was active in the Catholic Family Life and St. Joachim prayer group.

Terry was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters Genevieve Sandoval and Sadie Martinez, and two brothers, Tiburcio Hernandez and Marcelino Hernandez.

Terry is survived by her husband of 67 years Salvador Martinez of Madera, her son Martin Martinez of Madera, her daughter Veronica Espinoza of Madera, and her sister Connie Zamora of Fresno. She also leaves behind four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 15, 2020, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Jay Chapel in Madera, CA.

A Recitation of the Rosary and Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, September 16, 2020 at 9:30 AM and 10:00 AM respectively at St. Joachim Catholic Church in Madera. Interment immediately following at Calvary Cemetery in Madera.
