Tribute

Ted English passed away peacefully at the age of 94, Wednesday, September 12, 2018 surrounded by family in the home of his daughter Carol Fuentes of Madera California.

Ted was born in 1924, to Arthur B. English and Betty J Chapman. He was the last of 9 children and a native of Silverton Texas. He was married on June 21, 1943 to Shirley M. Hicks of Happy Texas and moved to Madera, California in the same year.

Ted was inducted into the U.S. Army in August of 1943 and served in World War II, the 392nd Rainbow Division Field Artillery Battalion in the Pacific Theater. His highest rank was Tec 5.

Ted and Mary Foster, his loving companion of 49 years lived for 23 years in Mariposa and he helped raise her son Charles Foster now living in Colorado Springs. He enjoyed all of his sixteen great grandchildren, and loved fishing, camping with them. Ted was a member of the Mariposa Rock and Mineral Club, and the Avon Club of Madera.

He had a passion for music. Ted loved playing his guitar, at every event Mary and dad hosted he would be singing and grinning. He knew the Lord and played as a young man in the church Gospel Defenders and later in life a time or two with his son in law Joe in Madera’s Friday night Gospel singing. Everyone he met called him a friend. Many remember his generosity, kindness and infectious smile.

He was proud to be a part of the Honor Flight for Veteran’s that went to Washington D.C. in 2015 to see the WWII memorial with his son in law Paul, who was also a Navy Vietnam Veteran.

Ted worked for 40 years at Madera’s Mc Cully Shell Oil Distributors as a truck driver.

Ted is survived by ex-wife Shirley English and his six children, his son Randy English of Lincoln, California, Stephen English, and his wife Ellie, of Madera, Shirlene English of Madera, Carol Fuentes and her husband Joe Fuentes of Madera, Diana Brack and her husband, Paul Brack of Madera, California. Ted and Shirley were divorced in 1969. He was the proud grandfather to eighteen grandchildren Lacey Brack, Tiffany Brack, Janie Ramos, Brian Fuentes, Eric Fuentes, Connie Marsh, Audra Newbery, Samantha Abbott, Amy Partlo, Richard English, Eddie English, Robert English, Gena Harson, Jenifer Moreno, Brandy Fisher. He will be missed.

The service for Ted will be at Jay Chapel, Monday, September 24, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. with a 21 gun salute Military Honors to follow.
