Steven Marshall Emmert

November 12, 1950 ~ March 9, 2020 (age 69) 69 Years Old

Tribute

Steven Marshall Emmert was born on November 12, 1950 to Charles and Lou Emmert in Madera and passed away at home on March 9, 2020 at the age of 69. A lifetime resident of Madera, Steven graduated from Madera High School in 1969 then went on to attend Hartnell College in Salinas then Fresno State University where he was active in the fraternity Alpha Gamma Rho.

Steven spent adventure-filled childhood summers in the mountains at Central Camp with his siblings, mom, and grandparents while his dad farmed during the week and joined the family in the mountains on the weekends.

During college, he worked summers with his cousin Neil McDougald for the forest service. He joined his father and uncles in farming in 1974, a pursuit he continued for the next 45 years. In addition to farming, he ran cattle with Bill Wood for a number of years.

Although Steven had one foot in retirement and had slowly handed over management of the family farm to his son Wyatt, he was still somewhat active in farming and the current president of Gravelly Ford Water District.

When he was not working, traveling, or golfing, Steven and his wife Pauline enjoyed spending as much time as possible at their property in the beautiful foothills of North Fork, where friends and family would visit almost as often as the local wildlife.

He was a devoted and loving son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. He delighted in his role as grandpa, rooting from the sidelines at t-ball, soccer, basketball games, and more. Steven was truly a good man with a kind heart. He was generous, honest, and always willing to lend a helping hand.

He was an avid Giants baseball fan and enjoyed traveling to Arizona for spring training most years. He had a love of history and reading, enjoyed the outdoors, horseback riding, and pack trips. He traveled extensively with his wife, enjoying road trips and cruises, and most recently traveling back east to take in the beautiful fall colors and history with his wife and sister.

Steven is preceded in death by his father, Charles Emmert, his son David McDougald, and his granddaughter Emily McDougald.

He is survived by his mother, Lou Emmert, his wife of 41 years, Pauline Emmert, his children, Steven McDougald (Tammy), Wyatt Emmert (Marlea), Amy Cadanazzi (David), Cristin Toschi (Jerett), his brother Jeff Emmert (Cathy Capuchino), sister Kathy Gannon, and nine grandchildren.

A private graveside service will be held.
