Rudolph “Rudy” Raul Garibay, age 86, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 27, 2020 in Madera, CA. Rudy was born on July 28, 1933 in Salinas, CA to Sebero and Emilia Garibay. He joined the Navy at the age of 17, where he served in the Korean War., Rudy was aboard the USS Gregory, a 2 battle star ship, where he was a boiler technician. After serving 10 years as active Navy, Rudy was honorably discharged then soon after his discharge an Army Recruiter sought him out. Rudy then joined the Army Reserves where he dedicated another 22 years of service. Throughout Rudy’s life, he was stationed at numerous bases including Japan, New York, Spain and San Francisco.
Rudy was a resident of Madera for over 55 years, where he was a devoted member of St. Joachim Catholic Church. Rudy was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Madera Elks Lodge, YMI, Pan American Club, Moose, and the La Mica Group in Fresno.
Rudy was preceded in death by his father, Sabero Garibay, his mother and stepfather Emilia and Antonio Muro, his brother Benny Garibay, and six of his sisters Eva Ramos, Juanita Iopini, Victoria Aispuro, Lucy Ayala, Esther Garibay and Josephine Gonzalez, by a step-son Anthony Mabarrete.
Rudy is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Madeline Garibay of Madera, his two sons Kenneth Garibay, Ted Garibay both of Tracy, CA, his daughter Debra and her husband Raymond of Manteca, CA, his step-daughter Antoinette Rene Scott and her husband Bob of Sharon Hill, PA, his step-daughter Catherine and her husband Danny Rodriguez of Madera, his step-son Felipe A Magos Jr and his wife Michelle of Madera, and his two sisters Helen Maciel and Mary Little both of Fresno, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Rudy also leaves behind 15 grandchildren Cassandra Parker, Lauren and her husband Antonio Espinoza, Danielle Snodgrass, Aaron Garibay, Daniel P. Rodriguez, Anthony Rodriguez, Victoria Rodriguez, Anneke Magos, Paul Magos ,Isabella Magos, Jamie Messina, Justin Messina and his wife Sarah, Marysa Scott, Alicia Messina, as well as his 9 great-grandchildren including Isabella, Emilia, Daniel M. Rodriguez, and two more on the way.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 3, 2020 from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Jay Chapel in Madera.
Recitation of the Rosary will be held on Thursday, June 4, 2020 at 11:00 AM immediately followed by a Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 11:30 AM at St. Joachim Church. Entombment to follow at Calvary Cemetery.
Current regulations regarding COVID 19 have been changed to allow up to 100 people at gatherings here in our Chapel, St. Joachim Church and at local cemeteries.
