Rory Taylor

Rory Jay Taylor was born on February 22, 1971 in Torrance, CA to Pamela and Robert Taylor. He graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in Long Beach, CA in June 1990.
After graduating high school, he was a truck driver for many years. On July 2, 2007, Rory began his career with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation at the Richard A. McGee Correctional Training Facility in Galt, CA. On October 20, 1997, Rory began his first assignment as a Correctional Officer at the California Rehabilitation Center in Norco, CA, which is where he met his future wife Billi. Rory and Billi were married on February 25, 2011. On August 1, 2013, Rory reported to Central California Women’s Facility in Chowchilla, CA. In 2017, Rory was named Officer of the Year by the Madera Elks Lodge for his unselfish giving of time and energy to further the goals of the department and the welfare of the community. In 2018, Rory was awarded the Medal of Valor Bronze Star by the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation for using proper training and tactics in a professional manner to save the life of another person.
Rory passed away unexpectedly on January 19, 2020 in Fresno, CA.
He was often viewed as a quiet man, but he was a good listener and he would think seriously about the things that you shared with him. He was a family man full of love and he was a big kid at heart. Rory enjoyed spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren. He loved to gamble, drive his Jeep Rubicon, watch fireworks, shoot guns, and fish.
Rory is survived by his mother, Pamela, his brother, Dan, his wife, Billi, his children, Rory, Jr, Caitlin, Zac, Chelsea, Chloe, and Robert, and his eight grandchildren. Rory is preceded in death by his father, Robert.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 29, 2020 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM with a Funeral Service beginning at 1:00 PM at Jay Chapel in Madera. Interment immediately following at Arbor Vitae Cemetery in Madera.
