Ronald “Ron” Pico was born on February 14, 1943 in Madera CA, to Lupe V. and Joe J. Pico. He passed away on March 27, 2018 in Fresno, CA at the age of 75. Ron graduated from Madera High School class of 1960. After high school, he worked for Franks Market. Ron served his country in the U.S. Army from 1963 – 1965 at Fort Lewis, WA. After Ron’s service in the Army he went to work for Thrifty-Mart in Fresno until his retirement. He volunteered his time at Vince’s Pool Service and Shop in Madera for 12 years.
Ron was active in the community; he was a member of the B.P.O.E. Elks #1918, for many years, the Italo American Club and St. Joachim Catholic Church. He was also a big sports fan of the Fresno State Bulldog Football and Basketball teams and the Oakland Raiders. Ron enjoyed traveling. He traveled to Mexico, China, Turkey, Athens, Croatia, Venice, Pompeii, Rome, The Holy Land, Guatemala, Costa Rico, Hawaii, Vietnam, Germany and throughout the United States. Ron enjoyed cooking and dancing with his last dance being in Chicago to “Chicago Blues” in June of 2017. Ron married Constance Diaz Palacios in 2006.
He was preceded in death by his father Joe J. Pico, his sister, Jo Ann Palacio, his grandparents Jennie & John Pico and Maria and Rafael Valades.
Ron is survived by his wife, Constance Diaz Palacios-Pico, his mother, Lupe V. Pico, his twin brother, Donald V. Pico and sister-in-law, Phyllis Pico of Madera, his stepsons, Vincent A Palacios and his wife Loretta M. of Arroyo Grande, and Victor P. Palacios and his wife Mardeau R. of Clovis and Philip K. Palacios of Fresno. step grandchildren, Alisa R. Palacios, Luis M. Saavedra, Renae C. Salas and Jason A. Salas of Clovis, Samuel Vincent Palacios and Olivia Marie Palacios of Arroyo Grande, step great grandchildren, Gabriella M. Saavedra and Luis M. Saavedra Jr., of Clovis. He is also survived by many nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
Per Ron’s request, private visitation will be held only at Jay Chapel.
Recitation of the Rosary will be Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at 7:00 P.M. at Jay Chapel, Madera, CA.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, April 5, 2018, 11:00 A.M. at St. Joachim Catholic Church, Madera, CA.
Entombment to follow at Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum, Madera, CA.
Remembrances may be made to St. Joachim School, 310 North “I” Street, Madera, CA 93637.
