Robert Allen Mahon

February 3, 1940 ~ March 28, 2022 (age 82) 82 Years Old

Tribute

Robert “Bob” Mahon passed away peacefully with his daughters by his side on Monday, March 28, 2022 at the age of 82.

Bob was born in Chicago, Illinois on February 3, 1940 to John and Victoria Mahon. He and his older brother Jack would be raised by mother Victoria surrounded by a large, loving family there before moving to Madera in 1952 where Victoria would find love, and Bob and Jack would find a loving father figure, in Prosper Bergon.

While attending Madera High School, Bob met the love of his life, Billie Gaines. The two wed in 1960, and would remain happily married for more than 61 years-until Billie’s passing in December of 2021. They had a truly wonderful life together that included their four children: Ruth Ann, Robert, Patricia (Tricia) and Susan (Susie), as well as many beloved family members and friends.

Bob and Billie bought the Snowhite Bakery in Madera in 1972 and opened Snowhite Bakery #2 in the early 1980s. The bakeries were the center of family life for many years–employing and bringing joy to their kids, extended family and friends for years. Fans of Bob’s eclairs and bear claws are still trying to find their equal to this day. After closing Snowhite in the ‘90s, Bob would go on to be employed by the State of California for close to 20 years as Head Baker at the Women’s Correctional Facility in Chowchilla.

Over the years, Bob and Billie enjoyed many water skiing trips to Chowchilla Lake, Saturday nights with the Alemans and Bass’, and family adventures on the Central Coast. He relished his role as Santa Claus at their annual Christmas Eve parties, handing out presents to all the kids. The two of them also enjoyed sneaking away to Chukchansi for the weekend. He was definitely the luckiest person in the family--winning a new Corvette AND $100,000 in one three-year period!

Bob was a devoted and loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. But as much as he loved the rest of us-Bob loved Billie more. He was a true romantic who told Billie he loved her every day, and would make sure to give her not only gifts, but also flowers and See’s candy at every single holiday and anniversary up to the very end.

Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Billie Mae; his parents, John Mahon and Victoria Bergon; his older brother, Jack; and son, Robert.

He is survived by daughters and spouses: Ruth Ann (Doug), Patricia (Barry) and Susan (Eric); grandchildren and spouses: Kelsey (Alec), Phillip, Jackson, Sydney, Leo, Shelbey (Nick) and Codee (Marie); 3 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, William; and many loving nieces, nephews, and friends.

The family will scatter Bob, Billie, and son Robert’s ashes together at Morro Bay this summer. When you visit the Central Coast, raise a toast and remember them with love.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made in Bob’s name to your favorite charity.
