Richard Albert Balbas

Richard “Rick” Balbas, age 68, a native of Madera, CA and resident of Madera for 45 years, passed away Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at his Madera home. He was a general contractor in Madera for 25 years and a Vietnam veteran of the U.S. Army. Anyone who knew Rick (to his family he was “Ritchie”) knew that he loved the outdoors and all that went with it. He was truly happy when he was outside and will be fondly remembered as the uncle who was always willing to share that love with his nieces and nephews . Rick was also very clever and known for his quick wit and one-liners, but at the same time, was the gentlest and kindest person. He will be remembered for that rare combination. To say that he will be missed is an understatement.

Rick is survived by his 2 sons: Ryan Balbas and Richard “Mick” Balbas, 1 daughter: Sheila Thompson. He is also survived by 11 siblings; Michael Balbas, Edward Balbas, Frank Balbas, John Daniel Balbas, James Balbas, Paul Balbas, Mary Emehiser, Adele Brenna, Deborah Walters, Barbara Balbas-Perkins, and Christine Balbas-Mendiola. He was also the grandfather of 10 and great grandfather of 1.

Memorial Services will be Saturday, March 31, 2018 at 11:00 am at Jay Chapel, 1121 Roberts Avenue in Madera.
