Raul Salinas Sr

Raul Salinas was born on Sunday March 16, 1941 to the late Donaciano & Maria Salinas, in Weslaco TX.

Raul was one of nine children five brothers, Manuel, Jesus, Luis, Casimiro, and Francisco and three sisters, Maria, Paula, and Juana who all grew up farming. He attended Joan of Arc Catholic School, and He graduated in 1961 From Weslaco High School. During his High School years, he worked with crop dusting with his brothers, where he would “borrow” some jet fuel for his motorcycle so he could go fast on it.

Raul came to King City California approximately in 1962 with one of his best friends, Julian Torres where he met his wife of 57 years, Horlinda Salinas. He enlisted in the Navy, in January 1965 and was deployed to Vietnam. In 1966, they welcomed their first child Veronica and in 1967, they left San Diego and moved their family to Clovis California. Raul started his Career as an electrician for Fresno State University in 1968. In 1972, they welcomed their son Raul Jr.
They became grandparent in May 1991 when they welcomed their first grandchild Victoria and then their grandson Daniel James was born in June of 1994. Following that in 1995, they relocated to Madera, California. In October 2001, they welcomed their second granddaughter Jacqueline. His years at Fresno State University ended in 2002 when he retired after 33 years. Soon after, they welcomed their second grandson Michael in October 2006.

Raul loved fishing, playing horseshoes, barbequing and having a cold one after mowing the lawn. He enjoyed spending time with his family. He loved watching Football especially his Dallas Cowboys. He enjoyed watching western movies and listening to Mexican music. He liked taking his family camping at Yosemite National Park, enjoying the waves at Pismo Beach and visiting the occasional amusement park, where he was always game to get on the rollercoasters with his grandkids when everyone else was to chicken to do it. His favorite food was Chinese and Mexican, and his favorite dessert was chocolate cake.

After retiring, he enjoyed spending time with his nephews talking about his younger days enjoying his music and his cold one. Raul was very family oriented and responsible; he always provided for his family and made sure they had everything they needed. He loved all his grandchildren, and was always going above and beyond for them and he could never say no to them.

Raul passed away on Tuesday, May 24 2022 and is proceeded in death by his parents Donaciano and Maria and all his siblings. He is survived by his wife of 57 years Horlinda Salinas, his children Veronica & Johnny Castro Jr, Raul Jr. & Cindy Salinas and his Grand-Children Victoria Marie, Daniel James, Jacqueline Janee, and Michael Josiah and several nephews and nieces.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 8, 2022 from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Jay Chapel Madera, California. Recitation of the Rosary Wednesday, June 8, 2022 at 6:00 pm at Jay Chapel Madera, California

Mass of Christian Burial Will be celebrated on Thursday, June 9, 2022 at 10:00 am St. Joachim Catholic Church Madera, California

Followed by interment at Clovis Cemetery District Clovis, California
Reception to follow: Clovis Veterans Memorial District, 808 Fourth Street. Clovis CA
