Rafael Castellanos of Fresno County in California passed away on Sunday, February 23, 2020 at the age of 69. Rafael was born January 11, 1951 to Mexican parents, mother Natividad Rios and father Guadalupe Castellanos in Jalisco, Mexico. He moved to the US in 1995, and has resided here in Fresno and Madera County ever since.
Rafael met and married Maria del Refugio Hidalgo, a daughter of Mexican parents born in Jalisco, Mexico. They lived in Miguel Hidalgo el Viejo in Jalisco, Mexico until they moved to Madera and Fresno County where he has resided for 25 years. Rafael enjoyed playing sports such as soccer and volleyball. In 1999, he suffered a tragic car accident that left him in a wheel chair. Although this happed he never let such a thing stop his sense of humor he continued to be his happy self and enjoyed making friends and helping others.
Rafael loved spending time with his family. He was all smiles and laughter even in sickness. He loved his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed teaching them how to play board games, and played thumb wars with his older grandson. He loved having family meals with his loved ones. He loved listening to music and singing. He counted the days to the next visit with his children or the next phone call.
Rafael was preceded in death by both his parents.
He is survived by his three sons; Benjamin Castellanos of Madera, Enrique Castellanos and Saul Castellanos of Kennewick, Washington; his daughter Aide Castellanos of Jalisco, Mexico, and his grandchildren Dania, Angel, Sandra, Ashley, Brian, Enrique, Alex, Lesley, and Ximena, and his two great grandchildren; Isabella, Thiago.
Visitation will be held on Thursday March 5, 2020 from 6:00 to 7:00 PM with a rosary at 7:00 PM at Jay Chapel in Madera.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, March 6, 2020 at 11:00 AM at St. Joachim’s Church in Madera. Burial to follow at Arbor Vitae Cemetery.
