Petra Rodriguez Gonzales was born to Ausencio and Inez Rodriguez on May 13, 1926, in Madera, CA. She married her husband Manual Gonzales on December 31, 1949 and they had 5 children together. She entered into paradise on January 17, 2022 at the age of 95.
Petra is survived by her children: Peter and his wife Rosemary, Edward and his wife Gloria, David, her daughter Gloria and her husband Jesse, along with 9 grandchildren 12 great grandchildren, 5 great-great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, and godchildren. She is also survived by her siblings Phyllis “Betty” Estrada, Teresa Valles, and Fred Rodriguez. She is preceded in death by her parents Ausencio and Inez Rodriguez, her husband Manuel Gonzales, her daughter Rachel Gonzales and her brothers Raymond Rodriguez, Gilbert Rodriguez, Cruz Rodriguez, Mike Rodriguez, Johnny Rodriguez, Frank Rodriguez, Ace Rodriguez, and her sister Mary Rodriguez Arias.
Petra worked as an LVN for 15 years. After retirement, she helped to take care and assisted in raising her grandchildren. Her home was a second home to all of them. In her spare time, Petra enjoyed going to yard sales, gambling at the casino, gardening, spending time at the Pan Am Senior Center, doing arts and crafts, listening to Mariachi music, dancing, singing with her birds, spending time with her family, and having everyone over for Wednesday Night Dinners. She was named Mother of the Year by Latinas Unidas in 2016. Petra enjoyed going to the ocean, wearing her costume jewelry, and having at least one Bud Light in a frosted glass with her dinner. Petra’s home was always open to family and friends, whether to visit, or if you needed a place to stay. She was very loving, but was also brutally honest and would state her opinion whether you wanted it or not. She had a love for life itself and age truly was just a number for her. Everyone in the family has a story about Mom, Grandma, Tia, and Aunt Petra. Those memories will always bring smiles to our faces. She was truly the matriarch of our family and will be greatly missed by her family and everyone who knew her.
Recitation of the Rosary will be at St. Joachim Catholic Church in Madera on Friday. February 4, 2022 at 11:30 AM with a Funeral Mass following at 12 Noon, interment will be at Calvary Cemetery.
Due to COVID-19 Masks are asked to be worn by those in attendance.
