Mrs Pauline Judith "Polly" Werner

Pauline {Polly} Werner, 93, of Madera passed away peacefully on July 23rd. She had been a resident at Cedar Creek Senior Living for several years where she made many friends and enjoyed participating in various activities. Polly was born to Peter and Mildred Salamun in Milwaukee Wisconsin, the youngest of five children. After graduating high school, she worked her way through Marquette University majoring in languages as an alteration's seamstress at Lerner’s Department Store.

After graduation Polly accepted a teaching job at a high school in Dorchester, Wisconsin. She met her future husband Earl Werner in Medford Wisconsin and they settled there after they were married. They had three children and in 1956 the family moved to Riverdale, California.

Polly accepted a teaching position at Riverdale High School and worked there for 37 years, first teaching English and Spanish, and after obtaining an administration degree became the school librarian. She also taught at the continuation school.

After retiring, Polly moved to Madera, California to be closer to family. Polly joined the St. Joachim’s Alter Society, the Madera Retired Teachers, and volunteered at community events. She is preceded in death by her parents, sisters Mary and Millie, her brother Peter, and their spouses. Her husband Earl passed away in 1970, her youngest son Joel in 1995. She is survived by her son Donald of Florida; her daughter RuthAnne of Madera, granddaughter Jodene and her family of Madera, and grandson Nathan. She is also survived by her sister Anne of Texas, and numerous nieces and nephews and their families.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests any memorials given in her honor to be donated to the donor’s favorite charity. There will be no services due to Covid-19, only a private family internment.
