Ophelia “Orfie” Sciacqua
1936 - 2022
Ophelia “Orfie” was born in Hanford on May 1, 1936. She was married to Don Sciacqua, her husband of 36 years. They enjoyed family get togethers, dancing, baseball, and golf before his passing in 1994. They were also loyal fans to Fresno State football. In her latter years, she was fortunate to have Gerald Nelson as a companion. They enjoyed traveling and taking the “scenic route”.
Aunt Orfie was loved by all, always cheerful and having a positive outlook.
She lived a full, adventurous and independent life. She worked over 40 years in the insurance field achieving many honors and recognition's, ultimately being named “Insurance Women of the Year”.
After retirement, she dedicated her to life to spreading the word of God. She was involved in prayer groups, retreats and missions. Through this, she traveled the world: New Zealand, Philippines and Africa, to name a few. She had a special place in her heart for her close friends who also shared their dedication to God.
Aunt Orfie moved to Fresno in 2018 to be close to her nephew Steve and family. In her heart Steve was her son, whom she loved dearly. She was”Nana” to her great nephews and enjoyed spending time with them. She gave advice and encouragement to family and friends. One of her last quotes to her nephew Joey was: “be the best man you can be”.
Aunt Orfie's spunkiness and sass will never be forgotten. She will be greatly missed.
She is survived by 3 siblings and many nieces and nephews.
