Mr Michael Russell Weatherly

July 1, 1954 ~ December 6, 2022 (age 68) 68 Years Old

Tribute

Michael Weatherly was a top-notch fellow. A smart guy with a lot of books. Some might say a know-it-all. A self-proclaimed auto-didact. A world traveler. The best dad and husband. He loved his family and friends fiercely but made a point to challenge them on a regular basis. In the end, it was his big heart that finally got him. He died peacefully at home, on December 6, 2022.

Michael was born in Hialeah, Florida on July 1st, 1954, to Marvin and Bonnie Weatherly. He was a wanderer for the first three decades of his life, but he finally found a home in Teresa, his wife of 38 years. They married on November 24th, 1984, and had two daughters, Elizabeth and Catherine. They love him more than words can describe.

For 18 years, Michael was a suit and tie kind of guy for CUSD. He worked two jobs to provide for his family and balanced that with three-week vacations to Europe. In his retirement these past four years, Michael replaced his button-up shirts and slacks with rock-n-roll t-shirts and beaded jewelry, a true hippy.

Michael was both a student and a teacher. He always had his kindle or a book with him. He might have appeared to be argumentative, but that’s because he was. He knew everything about everything, except the things he didn’t know, which he knew. He was always learning, which is why he was such a great teacher. For the past 30 years, he was a math professor at Clovis Community college, he was our own resident history expert, and a teacher of life. Sharing these parts of himself gave him a sense of purpose.

Michael was a stoic philosopher. He was intelligent. He was a lifelong fan of the San Francisco Giants and 49ers. He was quick-witted. He was frustrating. He was adorable. Music was in his soul. Michael Weatherly was so many things to so many people. This obituary does not do him justice and words certainly cannot convey how much he will be missed.

Michael is preceded in death by his parents and survived by his wife Teresa, his daughters, Elizabeth and Catherine, and his brothers, Marcus and Patrick. Michael was survived by a lot of other people because he left us too soon. Rest in peace, Michael, Pops, Papas Fritas, Uncle Mike.

“Perfection of character is this: to live each day as if it were your last, without frenzy, without apathy, without pretense.” - Marcus Aurelius
