MELISSA K. (ANDERSON) PARR

Melissa Kay Parr, beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, leader, colleague, and friend passed from this life on July 5, 2019. She was born on April 10, 1965 in Detroit, MI. She was employed by the Federal Bureau of Prisons for 27 years, serving most recently as an Associate Warden at Mendota Federal Correctional Institution. She is predeceased by her mother, Fay Ashbrook and father, Charles Anderson, and grandparents, Mertie and George Abbott, and Lewis and Maude Anderson.

Melissa graduated from St. Clements High School in 1983. She served in the U. S. Army for six years achieving the rank of Specialist. Melissa completed an associate’s degree from Ashland Community and Technical College. She also served at the Federal Correctional Complex – Florence, CO, Federal Correctional Institute – Ashland, KY, United States Penitentiary – Big Sandy, KY, and Federal Correctional Complex – Pollock, LA. Most recently, she was awarded the Supervisor of the Year Award. Melissa enjoyed refurbishing antiques, fishing, and camping. Melissa was loved and respected by many. She cared deeply about people.

Melissa has always had a significant impact on the communities and families she has worked with throughout her career. The family wants to thank everyone for reaching out and lending support in the unsuspected time of need.

She is survived by her husband, Steve; their children and spouses, Anthony and Karlyn Palmer, Melissa and Richard Senter, and Timothy Palmer; sisters and spouses, Karen and Joe Clancy, and Susan and Brad Hill, and brother and wife Joseph and Diane Anderson; grandchildren Natalie, Rebecca, Faith, Jameson, and Ivan; and her dearly loved father, Henry Ashbrook.

Visitation will be held at Jay Chapel on Friday, July 12, 2019, from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes donations to be made to the Correctional Peace Officers Foundation at http://cpof.org/.
