Marjorie Hinkle Brandon passed away peacefully in her home on Monday afternoon, October 26, 2020. Marj was born on January 6, 1924 in Wentworth, South Dakota to Roy and Mabel Zenner. She attended schools in that area. After graduating from high school, she went to business school and worked as a secretary in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. After a short vacation to visit relatives in California, she decided to move to Bakersfield, CA. There she met and married Jack Curtis Hinkle on October 3, 1948. They moved to Madera in 1955 when Jack was transferred to a new position while working for PG&E.
Marjorie began working as a school secretary for the Madera Unified School District in 1958. She was a secretary at John Adams Elementary School, James Madison Elementary School, and Alpha Elementary School. She retired in 1992.
Marj and Jack had two children, Cindy and Todd. Jack passed away in 1968. In 1978 Marjorie married Arthur Brandon. They were married 10 years.
Marj was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church for 60 years. She was very active in the Lutheran Church Women (LCW). She was especially happy making quilts for convalescent homes.
During her retirement years Marj enjoyed traveling, taking care of her grandsons, playing Bunco, and playing cards.
She was predeceased by her parents, Roy and Mabel Zenner, her brother, Darwin Zenner, and her husbands, Jack Hinkle and Arthur Brandon. She leaves behind her daughter, Cindy Meschke (Peter), her son, Todd Hinkle (Maria), her three grandchildren, Haden Hinkle (Katie), Trent Hinkle, and Emily Meschke, and two great granddaughters, Kennedy Hinkle and Raegan Hinkle.
The family wishes to thank Marj’s wonderful caregivers, Grace, Nancy, Perla, and Jodie for all of their loving attentiveness. We also wish to thank St. Mary’s Hospice and especially Karen for all their help and support.
