Lucy Kirby Campbell, age 99, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 16, 2017. Lucy was born July 24, 1917 in Veli, Louisiana to Roseanna Connel and Price Jackson. She lived in Madera for the past 43 years after moving from Berkeley, California. Lucy was an active member of Galilee Missionary Baptist Church in Fairmead, CA. Lucy served faithfully in many ministries. Her greatest joy was mentoring with youth and young adults. Lucy described her purpose as being a beacon light to those in darkness, and God’s Hand to those in need. Lucy did not give birth to children, but she was loved and called “Mom” by dozens of Godchildren and grandchildren across the United States.

Lucy was preceded in death by her parents, 3 brothers, husband Carlton Kirby and husband Archie Campbell.

Lucy is survived by cousins Luvina Edwards and Beatrice Shaw of Shreveport, LA, Roseanna Bigham of Brooklyn, NY and numerous other cousins and relatives. She is also survived by the host of Godchildren and grandchildren who she loved dearly.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, May 24, 2017 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Jay Chapel in Madera. Services will be held at Galilee Missionary Baptist Church in Fairmead. Interment will follow at Arbor Vitae Cemetery in Madera.
