Laura Maxine Simpson passed away on Wednesday, September 23, 2020 at the age of 82. Maxine was born on September 25, 1938 in Akins, Oklahoma to Homer and Annie (Adams) Blankinship. She has been a resident of Madera for the past 27 years. She will long be remembered by her family and friends, and her son who includes this statement:
There are so many stories I could tell about my mother, but one in particular as always been fond to me. Before my wife and I had kids of our own, we often "borrowed" others. My nephew Kulon was one of those, and this boy went everywhere with us. He quickly took to calling my Dad Papa Frank, but we couldn't find a name for my mom that he liked. Her preference was always Nana, so we tried to get him to call her Nana Maxine, but he said no. So we tried, Nana Max, no that wasn't her name, either. Then I thought Mama Max, nope. So we were in Pismo and were about to go to dinner and I remember my Dad was holding him and my Mom was right there at his side and I said, "Kulon, what's her name?' And his little mind turned for just a second, when out popped the words of babes and he said, "Mama Frank!" And that was her name on my wife's side of the family forever more. And she was very happy with that distinction and went on to see a whole generation of kids grow up. She will be missed by me, my wife, her husband of more years than I want to say, two grandkids, and family and friends that span generations. Anyone who knew her would tell you that when she made a friend, it was a friend for life. I know that my mom will be with us forever; I for one believe that we all go back to where we came from and this woman was Heaven sent.
Maxine is survived by her husband Franklin Simpson, her son, Brian Simpson, her grandchildren Sabree Simpson and Braxley Simpson. She is also survived by her youngest brother, Zane Blankenship.
