Juan Moreno, age 95, passed away peacefully at his Madera home surrounded by his loving family on Friday , January 31, 2020. Juan was born in el Mesquite de Luna, La Piedad, Michoacan, Mexico to Francisco and Maria Loreto Gallaga. Juan grew up and attended school in Mexico. In earlier years he worked under the Bracero program in agriculture, and eventually immigrated to the US in 1970, working as a Foreman for a time, for the Diebert Ranches, Logoluso Ranches, and finally as a Ditch Tender for the Madera Irrigation District. Juan’s talented hobbies included craftsman in carpentry and wood furniture. In his leisure time Juan enjoyed listening to music, playing checkers, and dominoes.
In addition to his parents, Juan was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Roberto and Luis Moreno, by his wife of 58 years Ma. Dolores Piceno, his daughter Eva Carolina Pereira, and his granddaughter Donna Moreno.
Juan is survived by his children, Socorro and husband Domingo Velasco, Gustavo Moreno, Juan Moreno Jr., Miguel Moreno and his wife Irma, Loreta and husband Tajinder Bassi, of Madera, Laura Moreno, and adopted daughter Ursula Paulus, both of San Diego, and son-in-law Fred Pereira of Fresno. He is the brother of Josefina Rodriguez, of Tijuana Mx. Juan is the beloved Abuelo “granpa” to 10 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Also surviving are numerous nephews and nieces.
Visitation will be at Jay Chapel on Wednesday, February 5, 2020 from 11 am to 1 pm, with a Funeral Service at 1 pm at Jay Chapel with interment following at Arbor Vitae Cemetery.
