Joy Farr

February 24, 1940 ~ February 6, 2019 (age 78) 78 Years Old

Tribute

Joy Farr was born in Chicago, Illinois, on February 24, 1940, to the late John and Esther Lottes. Joy quietly drifted back to her eternal home joining her mother and father on February 6, 2019. She left behind eight legacies, Darrel, Jan, Star, Amber, Bredrick, Barbara, Tiffany and Shannon.

Joy married Claude Carl Hughes in 1958 at the age of 18 after high school and before he left for the Army. They welcomed four children into the world; Darrel, Jan (his wife Peggy, and children Samantha and Haley), Star (husband Edward and son Ethan), and Amber (husband Chris and children Dusty, Tierney, Cheyenne, Heather, and CJ). This marriage evolved onto differing paths, and Joy found love again and remarried in 1969 to Harvey Lee Farr. They were married for 10 years before sharing in the bringing forth of 2 daughters, Tiffany (children Kayden, Joshua, and Preston), and Shannon (husband Frank and children Harvey and Jack) as well as 5 great-grandchildren.

Joy was born in Chicago, IL and often shared stories of taking the subway in Chicago as a child to and from school, playing outside in the snow with neighbor kids, and of endless summer afternoons splashing in the shores of Lake Shore in Chicago. She moved with her parents to Jacksonville, Florida as a teenager and shared memories of catching lighting bugs, and going to the ocean on hot muggy summer days with her girlfriends. She then moved to the Bay Area in California settling in Palo Alto and Menlo Park raising her children with Harvey. She eventually settled in Madera, CA and continued to raise their children with the joys and excitement of farm life.

Throughout her life, she found joys in nursing education, was a long time fire department dispatcher; a jail CO, and a group home for developmentally challenged adults. But she found her greatest fulfillment through being a mother and grandmother.

Joy Farr is survived by her husband, Harvey Farr, their daughters Tiffany Blackmon and Shannon Katz; sons Jan Hughes, Darell Hughes, and Bredrick Farr, and daughters Star Cruson, Amber Vereide, and Barbara Lewis. Grandchildren Dusty Gayton, Samantha Hughes, Tierney Sample, Haley Hughes, Cheyenne Cranney, Heather Henderson, CJ Vereide, Kayden Blackmon, Joshua Blackmon, Preston Blackmon, Harvey Katz and Jack Katz. Great-grand children Landon Gayton, Addison, Colton, and Julian Sample, and Leilah Gayton.
