Josephine Gonzales passed away on Saturday, December 29, 2018 at the age of 92.
She was born to Severo Garibay and Emelia Muro in Betteravia, CA (Santa Maria) and was a resident, of Madera for 80 years. After raising her 4 children she worked at Westgate Convalescent and Madera Convalescent Hospital where she passed peacefully.
She lived by her moto, “There is not a job I couldn’t do” if someone gives you the
Opportunity you should try and do your best. She was given the opportunity from
1972 thru 1974 when she worked at Madera High School in the work experience office. Later Josephine became the “VandeKamp lady in her Dutch Blue and white uniform stocking the Pastries and doing the inventory at Mayfair Market working with her Brother Benny Garibay.
Along her journey she belonged to Young Ladies Institute, Guadalupana Society of Madera and the Italian American Club as well as a volunteer at Madera Community Hospital. She loved to go to the Casino; she was able to make many a road trip with her sisters to our local Casino’s.
Josephine is survived by her children, Judy Gonzales, Jeannie Rodriguez, Thomas Gonzales and Mary Ann Chairez all of Madera, and three grandchildren and one great child, her sisters, Helen Maciel, Mary Little of Fresno and Rudy Garibay of Madera.
Josephine was preceded in death by her husband, Santiago Gonzales, her bother, Benny Garibay and sisters, Eva Ramos, Lucy Ayala, Juanita Ioppini, Esther Garibay and Vicky Aispuro.
Visitation will be on Sunday, January 6, 2019 from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Jay Chapel.
Rosary will be recited on Monday, January 7, 2018 at 10:30 AM at St. Joachim Catholic Church followed by The Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM.
Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
