Jose de Jesus Gomez Falcon was born on October 6, 1934. The second of four siblings, Jose worked as a young man on the family farm growing and harvesting corn and beans. Out of necessity and to help his family, Jose immigrated to the United States in 1976 to work hard to provide for his family. A few years after, he returned to Mexico intending to bring his entire family to the United States. He was able to bring his two sons, Jose and Rodrigo, and he worked tirelessly to assure his two boys would not need anything.
Jose worked for more than 40 years in the agricultural fields of the Central Valley, primarily in the Fresno and Madera area. His primary choice of work was the fig orchards and the fig industry. His sons and close friends remember him as a hard worker who never missed a day of work regardless of the physical toll it had on him. His boss knew he could always count on him to get the job done. One of Jose’s major life challenges occurred when his wife, Maria de la Luz, passed in 1997. Although Jose did not share much in terms of his emotions, it was quite evident this event in his life was one of the most difficult for him to overcome.
His two sons, Jose and Rodrigo, his daughter Gudelia, his two daughters-in-law, Brenda and Lucy, his sister Maria Elena, 15 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and countless nephews and friends survive Jose.
His wife Maria de la Luz, his parents Marcelino and Petra Gomez, and his brothers Gregorio y Leopoldo Gomez precede Jose in death.
