Jose Miguel Garcia Cardenas

On Thursday, September 17, 2020, the Garcia Cardenas family lost their beloved father and grandfather.  

Jose Miguel Garcia Cardenas was born in Jerez, Zacatecas, Mexico on March 2, 1944. He passed away at the age of 76 at Madera Community Hospital.  He lived in Madera for the past 50 years until the time of his death. 

Jose Miguel started working at a young age raising cattle, as a shoe shiner and selling newspapers.  He spent early 20’s & late 30’s working in farm labor picking grapes, tomatoes, cauliflower, peaches, garlic, onion, and other central valley grown fruits and vegetables.  

In 1993, he started his company Cardenas Trucking.  Jose, known in trucking circles, as “Cardenas.” During his time as a truck driver, he hauled carrots, tomatoes, garlic, Christmas trees, alfalfa, grapes, pomegranates and other agriculture-related loads.  He also mentored many young truck drivers including his sons.  

Jose Miguel maintained a life-long interest in reading, music, movies, reselling TV’s, radios and electronics.  Most recently, he spent most of his time on his property, which he nicked name “la mansion.”  It was there that he grew his chills, garlic, pomegranate, lemons, apricot, and raised chickens. 

One of Jose Miguel’s biggest accomplishments was being a father. His children could always count on him for anything.  There was nothing, their father would not do for them.   He was always there for them through their ups and downs and taught them to enjoy every moment life has to offer.  

Jose Miguel is survived by his wife of 41 years, Juanita Garcia.  They lived a happy life together raising five children.  Their greatest joy of Jose Miguel and Juanita has been their six grandchildren: Anthony, Gigi, Nick, Jay-D, Hazel and Mateo.  

His loving children who survive him are Aurora Garcia, Miguel Angel Garcia, Juan Pablo Garcia, Ruben Garcia and Jesus Garcia.  He is also survived by his siblings Andrea Garcia, Jesus Garcia, and Roberto Garcia. 

Jose Miguel was preceded in death by his parents, sister Aurora “Lola” Garcia De La Torre, and brother Ruben Garcia. 

We will miss him dearly.  We will miss carnitas, chicharrones, his loving advice, his singing, his sense of humor, loud laugh, and his trucker voice that could always be heard loud and clear, 10-4,  And so much more. 

Juanita and her children would like to thank everyone who has offered their condolences and prayers.  

Rosary and Mass will be celebrated at St. Joachim Catholic Church on Wednesday, September 30, 2020 at 9:30 a.m. Mass starting at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Arbor Vitae Cemetery, Madera, CA

El jueves 17 de septiembre de 2020, la familia García Cárdenas perdió a su amado padre y abuelo.

José Miguel García Cárdenas nació en Jerez, Zacatecas, México el 2 de marzo de 1944. Falleció a la edad de 76 años en el Hospital Comunitario de Madera. Vivió en Madera durante los últimos 50 años hasta el momento de su muerte.

José Miguel comenzó a trabajar desde muy joven criando ganado, de limpiabotas y vendiendo periódicos. Pasó los principios de sus 20 años trabajando en labores agrícolas recogiendo uvas, tomates, coliflor, melocotones, ajo, cebolla y otras frutas y verduras cultivadas en el valle central.

En 1993 inició su empresa Cardenas Trucking. Se hizo conocido en los círculos de camioneros como "Cárdenas". Durante su tiempo como conductor de camión transportaba zanahorias, tomates, ajos, árboles de Navidad, alfalfa, uvas, granadas y otras cargas relacionadas con la agricultura. También fue mentor de muchos jóvenes conductores, incluidos sus hijos.

José Miguel mantuvo un interés de por vida en la lectura, la música, las películas, la reventa de televisores, radios y electrónicos. Más recientemente, pasó la mayor parte de su tiempo en su propiedad, a la que apodó el nombre de "la mansión". Fue allí donde cultivó sus chiles, ajo, granada, limones, albaricoque y crió pollos.

Uno de los mayores logros de José Miguel fue ser padre. Sus hijos, siempre podían contar con él para cualquier cosa. No había nada que su padre no hiciera por ellos. Él siempre estuvo ahí para ellos a través de sus altibajos, y les enseñó a disfrutar cada momento que la vida tiene para ofrecer.

A José Miguel le sobrevive su esposa durante 41 años, Juanita García. Vivieron una vida feliz juntos criando a 5 hijos. Su mayor alegría de José Miguel y Juanita han sido sus seis nietos: Anthony, Gigi, Nick, Jay-D, Hazel y Mateo.

Sus amados hijos que le sobreviven son Aurora García, Miguel Ángel García, Juan Pablo García, Rubén García y Jesús García. También le sobreviven sus hermanos Andrea García, Jesús García y Roberto García.

José Miguel fue precedido en la muerte por sus padres, su hermana Aurora “Lola” García De La Torre y su hermano Rubén García.

Lo vamos a extrañar mucho. Extrañaremos sus carnitas, chicharones, sus cariñosos consejos, su canto, su sentido del humor, su carcajada y su voz de camionero que siempre se podía escuchar fuerte y clara, 10-4. Y mucho mas. 

Juanita y sus hijos quieren agradecer a todos los que han ofrecido sus condolencias y oraciones.
