John Joseph O'Meara passed away peacefully on March 26, 2020.

John was born December 8, 1927 in Madera, California to Melissa and Michael O’Meara. John lived in Madera his entire life except for a two year period following World War II, when he served as a U.S. Navy Seabee on Johnston Island in the Pacific. John graduated from Madera Union High School in 1946, where he excelled in both varsity football and track, as well as Junior Class Treasurer and a member of the Boys’ Federation. On October 18, 2019, John was honored for his contributions to the football program by receiving a game jersey and conducting the coin toss at the Madera High vs. Bullard game.

John married Roberta “Bebe” Habert on November 12, 1949. He worked for the Pacific Gas and Electric Company for 35 years. He actively served his community as a Babe Ruth baseball coach, a member of the Lions and Elks service clubs, the Veterans of Foreign War (VFW), the Italian Catholic Federation (ICF) and as Head Usher at St. Joachim’s Church. He was a happy and loving father. John and Bebe traveled to many wonderful places including Ireland, Europe, Australia and China. As time went on, most of their travel was limited to visiting their family and friends in California, Virginia, and the western United States.

John is survived by his two children Nyla (Bob) Norris of Cobb, CA and Jack (Cheryl) O'Meara of Falls Church, VA.
