Jerry Merle Ewald, 79, of Madera, California died peacefully on Sunday, March 28, 2021, at his home with family by his side. Jerry Ewald was born on March 6, 1942 in Fresno, California to Merle John Ewald and Helen Delores Miller.
Jerry graduated from Fresno High School (1960) later served in the U.S. Navy as a boiler man on the U.S.S. St. Paul from 1960-1964. After the military, Jerry worked many years in the maintenance/custodial field, most notably at Madera Community Hospital, Head Start, and for his beloved church, Madera Avenue Bible Church, where he was an active member for 35 years.
Jerry enjoyed many hobbies during his life such as camping, fishing, working in his yard, collecting Rock & Roll albums from the “good ole days,” volunteering with his church, and spending time with his family and many friends.
Jerry was preceded in death by his daughter Carrie Ewald.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 38 years, Terri Ewald of Madera; his step-mother Maralyn Ewald; brothers Jon (Julie) and David Ewald; daughter Deanna (Jeff) Dabbs of Concord, North Carolina; son Brandon (Janelle) Duran of Honolulu, Hawai‘i and three grandchildren; Christopher Ewald, Elijah and Emma Duran as well as one great-grandchild, Conner.
Services will be held at on Thursday, April 1, 2021, 10:00 a.m. at Madera Avenue Bible Church, Madera, CA
Family interment will be held at a later date at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery, Santa Nella, CA
