Janie Crystal Hargrove transitioned to her heavenly home on July 11, 2022, surrounded by her family.
Janie was born on January 5, 1943, to Dario and Sara (Palma) Acevedo at Rancho San Carlos in Carmel Valley, California. At a young age, the family moved to Seaside, California where she attended Juan Cabrillo Elementary, Fremont Jr High and Monterey High School.
In 1972, she began working at Carmel Valley Manor. She was employed there for 32 years. After retiring, she moved to Madera, California. Shortly after retiring, she decided to fulfill her passion of caring for others by working for Home Instead. While employed with Home Instead she received the company’s award for Employee of the Year twice.
Janie loved spending time with her family - she described some of the best being our yearly family trips to Wild Water Adventure Park and camping. She enjoyed attending the numerous events in support of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed music especially attending the Monterey Bay Blues Festival, never missing a year. She also enjoyed dancing, gardening, motorcycle riding, and good company. Her weekly Bible Study with her sisters in Christ brought her great joy.
Janie is preceded in death by her parents; sisters Helen Avila, Angie Builta, Birdie Paige, and Claudia Leibert; brother Eddie Acevedo; daughter Juanita Vaughan-Newell; stepson Dexter Jermaine Lamar; and the father of her children Claudell Vaughan.
She is survived by her husband Jerum Hargrove of Madera, CA; sister Linda (Walt) Brown of Soledad, CA; daughters Claudia (Ronald) Hunter of Seaside, CA, Christina (Conrad) Weathersby of Houston, TX, Celestina (Steve) Brown and Catherine (Darcy “Dutch”) Nainoa of Madera, CA; son Claudell “Papa” (Vickie) Vaughan of Fresno, CA; 23 grandchildren that she called her “Jewels” and 35 great-grandchildren she called her “Pure Generation”; and her lifelong friend Dona Lobato of Riverside, CA.
Homegoing services will be held at Valley West Christian Center 101 W. Adell Street, Madera, CA on July 25, 2022, at 10:00am.
The repass will be immediately following the services at Encore Event Center 1187 S Granada Drive, Madera.
