Mr Hernando Abian Rasay

Hernando A. Rasay, age 80, was born on a farm in the Philippines. He came to California first as a farm worker in the 1960’s and later he returned as a college student to study business. His earthly journey ended at home on November 15, 2019 after a sudden and unexpected illness of only a month. He was a faithful follower of Jesus Christ and had the promise and hope of heaven after this life.

Hernando was a graduate of San Jose State University in Business Administration - Accounting and worked in Silicon Valley for 40 years. He started as an accounting clerk, held various staff and management positions, then retired as Controller of a civil engineering firm in 2008. He also had a tax preparation business for many years. He was known for his strong faith, reliable integrity, and diligent work ethic; he always had a joyous smile and positive attitude. With his faith and God’s guidance and provision, he truly achieved the American dream.

He was married to the former Sandy Tigson (Madera HS, Class of 1962) for over 52 years. He is survived by Sandy and their three children: Jennifer (husband Mark), Dan (wife Kathy), Laura (husband Nervin), and six grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Antonio Rasay in the Philippines and numerous nieces and nephews in Las Vegas, Hawaii, and the Philippines. His children and grandchildren were his pride and joy and he prayed faithfully for them every day. Sandy and the family are comforted by the support and many prayers of family and friends and knowing “Papa” is pain free, eternally healed, and rejoicing with Jesus.

The Graveside Service at Arbor Vitae Cemetery and Memorial Service at Jay Chapel in Madera were held over the Thanksgiving weekend. A Celebration of Life event for Hernando will be held after New Year’s 2020.
