Mrs. Helen Serrano, age 90, a native of Bakersfield, CA and a resident of Madera, CA for 80 years, passed away Friday, June 8, 2018 at her Madera home. Helen graduated from Madera Union High School Class of 1947 then worked as a teacher’s aide in the migrant education program for Madera Unified School District for 58 years. She was a volunteer for Madera Community Hospital, Madera Police Department and the voting precinct at Ripperdan.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Mike Serrano in 2013; her parents, Anastacio and Juana (Martinez) Montoya; 2 brothers: Lino Montoya and Ignacio Montoya and 3 sisters: Josephine Ayala, Augustina Juarez and Carmel Recendez.
She is survived by her children and their spouses: Richard and Norma Serrano and Lydia Serrano and George Freitas all of Madera. Helen is also survived by her two grandchildren: Mackenzie Freitas-Serrano and Mackayle Freitas-Serrano; three step-grandsons: Kevin Curry, Lamont Gobert and Robert Freitas and two step-great-grandsons: Victor and Brandon Freitas.
Helen’s Family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to her wonderful caregivers, Gloria Taylor, Marcy Mendoza and Sherrice Stamps, who provided such loving care to mom.

Visitation will be on Sunday, June 17, 2018 from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm with a Vigil Service beginning at 6:00 pm at Jay Chapel in Madera. Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, June 18, 2018 at 11:00 am at St. Joachim Catholic Church in Madera. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Madera.
