Mr Fred D. Iverson

January 21, 1943 ~ February 26, 2018 (age 75) 75 Years Old
Fred D. Iverson, 75, passed away unexpectedly on Monday February 26, 2018 in Fresno CA. He was born on January 21, 1943 in Los Banos, CA to Lee R. and Leona B, Iverson. Fred later lived in Vernon, Texas until his parents returned to California in 1953. Fred attended Madera Schools graduating from Madera Union High School in 1961. Later while attending Fresno City College, he drove the FCC bus to and from Madera. Fred enlisted in the Army, with duty stations in Missouri and Germany. He later applied to OCS, was sent to Fort Sill, Oklahoma, and was commissioned as a First Lieutenant in the Artillery. Following time in Arizona, Fred was sent to Vietnam. After his military service and returning to Madera, Fred enrolled at Fresno State earning his Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management. Upon Graduation he obtained a position with Gentz Construction in Fresno. Starting as an estimator, he later added duties as the Company Safety Officer, as well as the litigation researcher. Wanting to expand his construction knowledge, Fred took a job with Sue’s Boring in Chowchilla. In 1988 he took and passed the California State Test to become a Licensed Contractor. He passed on the first attempt and held both A and B licenses. Fred loved building, but remodeling was his passion. He said a job was only good if you could not see that there had been a change to the structure.

Fred felt he had a responsibility to not only do a good job but to share what he knew with others. To do that he hired only Fresno State students in the Construction Management Program for the 30 years he was in business. Many remained in contact after graduation sharing what they were doing and on occasions asking advice. In addition, Fred was a strong supporter of the Boy Scout Program. He was Cub Scout, Boy Scout, and an adult leader in both Fresno and Madera. As a scout, he earned the rank of Eagle and the Religious Award through the Methodist Church in Madera; taking on the Civics Day Event in Madera for over 25 years, enlisting his whole family, the 93rd occasion of this event took place in February. Over years Fred has been recognized for his commitment to Scouting, being a recipient of the Happy Scout Award by Ed Munger, the Scouting Family Award and the prestigious “Silver Beaver Award”.

Fred was on the Non Profit Committee that built new buildings at several grammar schools in Madera and the New Webster Campus that is now part of the Golden Valley Unified School District. He was the only member of that group who was there from the beginning until its dissolution. Fred was also a former member the Kiwanis Club of The Madera Ranchos.
