Francisco “Frank” Garcia Baldenegro (Pancho)
March 2, 1935 -- August 29, 2021. 86 years old.
Born in Eloy, Arizona.
Francisco "Frank" Garcia Baldenegro was born in Eloy, Arizona on March 2, 1935 to Bartolo V. Baldenegro and Ysaura G. Baldenegro He grew up on a family homestead near the community of “Friendly Corner” in southwestern Arizona. In the 1950’s his family moved to California and settled in the small agricultural town of Madera.
Frank worked most of his life in the fields of the San Joaquin Valley picking cotton and all of the fruit and vegetables the land provided. During the cotton harvest season, he picked cotton in the Dairyland District and fields along Robertson Blvd., and rural areas of what is today Chowchilla. If there was cotton to be picked, Frank (Pancho) would pick 500 lbs. per day! He was amazing. By the early 1960’s, the introduction of the cotton picker put an end to hand-picked cotton and Frank moved on to being a landscaper and caretaker of local golf courses in Madera and Fresno. He also worked for morgues locally in the support area of transport.
Frank is survived by his sister Sara (Baldenegro) Samudio of Madera, CA; Dolores “Lola” (Baldenegro) Valdez of Madera, CA; Manuel G. Baldenegro (Pauline) of Santa Rosa, CA; Angelita (Baldenegro) (Fernando) Esquivel of Madera, CA; Ernestine (Baldenegro) Vasquez of Fresno, CA. He is also survived by 21 nephews and nieces, 20 grand nephews and nieces, and, 18 great grand nephews and nieces.
Frank was preceded by his father, Bartolo V. Baldenegro, his mother, Ysaura G. Baldenegro, and his younger brothers Fidel G. Baldenegro and Bartolo G. Baldenegro, Jr.
Visitation will be held at Jay Chapel on Tuesday, September 7, 2021 from 8:00 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. followed by a Recitation of the Rosary and Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joachim Church also on Tuesday, September 7, 2021, Rosary at 10:30 a.m. Mass at 11:00 a.m.
