Esmeralda “Mera” Arias-Cortez, age 29, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, September 18, 2018 at Madera Community following a 7 month battle with cancer. “Mera” was born in Salem, Oregon but has lived her entire life in Madera. She attended Madera Schools graduating from Mountain Vista Continuation High School and later went on to graduate from Kaplan College in Fresno in Health Care. For the last 6 years “Mera” was a Care Giver Manager, part of the team at Our House Residential Care Homes here in Madera. In her leisure time she loved to travel, especially to the Pacific Ocean Beaches and to her favorite city of San Francisco.
“Mera” is survived by her parents, mother Alba Cortes and her husband Javier Gonzales of Madera, by her father Clemente Arias of Phoenix, AZ, by her paternal grandmother, Alicia Arias of Mexico. She is the beloved sister of Christian Arias, Miguel Arias, Susmey Cortez, Lennis Arias, Griselda Arias, Giselle Gonzalez and Leslie Gonzalez all of Madera. Also surviving “Mera” is her boyfriend Mauricio Alvarado.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, September 25, 2018 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM with an Evening Service at 6:30PM at Jay Chapel. A Graveside Service will be on Wednesday, September 26, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Calvary Cemetery in Madera.
