Tribute

Ernest Wallace Pino, better known as “Ernie”, age 91, a native son and lifelong resident of Fresno, California passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on Friday morning, August 2, 2019, following a challenging illness.

Ernie was born to Manuel and Eloisa Pino and was the last surviving sibling of the 9 children in the close knit family. After graduating from High School Ernie served in the U.S. Air Force and following that he began his career in the California Air National Guard as a full time employee at the Fresno Air Guard Base. He retired as Supervisor with a distinguished career spanning 36 years of military service with the unit. Ernie for a time helped out with his first wife Bea’s family business, La Victoria Tortilla Co. in west Fresno. Later in life, Ernie who was a real people person, found a calling at Jay Chapel as an associate, assisting on funeral services. He thoroughly enjoyed helping families and the camaraderie of the employees there, as well as helping out when other funeral homes needed an extra person, helping out often at Wallin Funeral Homes, Farewell Funeral Service and at Yost and Webb Chapel. He always left a positive impression where he went. He was a member of Our Lady of Victory Parish where he served as an usher at Sunday Mass for many years. He enjoyed his cars over the years and participation in car clubs. He kept in contact with the Air Guard retirees and looked forward to their breakfast meetings. Ernie will be missed by his many friends.

In addition to his parents, and his first wife Beatrice “Bea”, Ernie was preceded in death by his sibling’s, Isabel Maciel, Aurora Ortiz, Connie Vallejo, Pauline Quintero, Jess Pino, Willie Pino, Sally Rios, and Manuel Pino, also by step-son Douglas Randall, grandsons Kurt Randall and Paul Sindt, and an infant grandchild.

Ernie is survived by his wife of 17 years, Ann Randall Pino of Fresno, his children, Patti Garcia and her husband Anthony “Tony” of the Bonadelle Ranchos in Madera County, Gary Pino of Arroyo Grande, CA, Jon Pino and his wife Barbara of Fresno, Ann’s children, Richard Randall of Arizona, Kimberly Durham and her husband Scott of Arizona, Valerie Marderosian and her husband Brian of New Jersey, and daughter in law Tiffany Randall of Fresno. He is the brother-in-law of David and Karen Hall of Clovis, and is the beloved grandfather of 15 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren and was Uncle Ernie to numerous nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, August 10, 2019 at 10 AM at Belmont Memorial Park in Fresno, California. Deacon William Lucido (a former Air Guard Pilot and friend of Ernie) will officiate.
