Elizabeth Ann Stittich, Professor Emeritus in the School of Nursing at San Joaquin Delta College, Stockton, California passed away in Fresno, California on December 27, 2018. Elizabeth was born in Blawnox, Pennsylvania to Joseph and Mary Stittich, one of three daughters.
Elizabeth’s distinguished career in Health Care and Education began at the age of 18 following her graduation from Oakmont High School in Oakmont, Pennsylvania. She attended the Western Pennsylvania Hospital, School of Nursing, Pittsburgh, PA. graduating with a Diploma of Nursing, in 1951. Elizabeth began her nursing career at Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, Maryland where she became an Instructor of Nursing & Medical Surgical Nursing. Elizabeth found a love for teaching and decided to further her education attending the California State University Fresno where she received a Bachelor of Science, Nursing Degree, and the University of California Los Angeles, receiving a Masters of Science, Nursing Degree. Elizabeth began her teaching career as an Assistant Professor at the University of Arizona College of Nursing, Tucson, Arizona. She eventually accepted a position with San Joaquin Delta College, Stockton as a Professor of Nursing.
Elizabeth became a permanent resident of Fresno following her retirement, where she shared a home with her sister.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her father Joseph, mother Mary, sister Margaret Dougherty and sister Eleanor.
Elizabeth is survived by her two nephews, Roger Dougherty of Montana and Donald Dougherty of Washington, and their extended families.
Recitation of the Holy Rosary and Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Anthony of Padua Church in the Guadalupe Chapel, on Monday, January 7, 2019 at 10:00 AM. A private interment will be held at St. Peter’s Cemetery.
