David Gonzales Ugarte, Sr.

David G. Ugarte Sr., age 89, passed away peacefully in Colton, California surrounded by his loving family on Monday, May 13, 2019. David was born on September 6, 1929 in Fort Quitman, Texas to Jose and Carolina (Gonzales) Ugarte. David soon after moved to California where he met his wife Nellie Padilla and they were married in 1950. They had six children. David Ugarte Jr, (Karina), Donald Ugarte, Daniel Ugarte (Deceased), Guillermo Ugarte, Edward Ugarte (Nancy) and Stella Ugarte Trujillo.

David was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Nellie 32 years of marriage, and his second wife Margaret Soto Ugarte 15 years of marriage, his granddaughters Bernadette Ugarte Negron and Samantha Trujillo.

David is survived by his wife Bertha Ortiz Ugarte 20 years of marriage. He also leaves behind his adored grandchildren, Eugene Ugarte, David Ugarte lll, Eric Ugarte, Edgar Ugarte, Carla Ugarte, Adam Ugarte, Melissa Ugarte Galvan, Vanessa Ugarte, Damien Trujillo, Joshua Trujillo and John Hollis. He is also survived by 16 beloved great-grandchildren and one adopted son Anthony Mesa.

David’s love of farming was evident by his ranch in Madera.  He always looked forward to his next potential bountiful harvest and challenged himself by rotating crops annually.  You could count on him to have a full house on weekends with all of his family surrounding him while he cooked up delicious BBQ and he loved sharing great family stories.  He was the kind of person that would help anyone in need. 

He will be greatly missed by many as he was loved by all.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 23, 2019 from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm with a Rosary Service beginning at 6:00 pm at Jay Chapel in Madera.

Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, May 24, 2019 at 11:00 am at St. Joachim Catholic Church in Madera. Interment immediately following at Arbor Vitae Cemetery in Madera.
