Daniel Antonio Alvarez

July 17, 1958 ~ August 3, 2020 (age 62) 62 Years Old

Tribute

With both great sadness at our loss and great joy at having had him in our lives, the partner and family of Daniel Antonio Alvarez announce that he passed away on August 3, 2020.

Known to his family and circle of friends as Danny and Dan as well as Daniel, Dan was born on July 17, 1958 in Vicenza, Italy into military family. Dan came to the United States with his family as a toddler.

Eventually settling with his family in the southern portion of the San Francisco Bay Area, Dan developed what would prove to be a keen, lifelong love of astronomy and spending time contemplating the connection between math, the known scientific world, and the scientific world that humankind is still exploring. He also developed a great love for playing basketball in high school that endured for decades. Dan received his bachelor's degree in mathematics from the University of San Francisco, after which he went on to form a telecommunications business with his oldest friend, Jim Highstreet.

Dan came to realize that he had a great affinity for animals, both large and small. He dreamed of living in a quiet, peaceful setting where he could devote time to his horses, dogs, and other animal members of his family.  Dan realized his dream when he and his partner moved to Raymond in Madera County. Dan loved the natural beauty that surrounded him and the chance it gave him to slow down, enjoy the moment, and contemplate the universe.

Dan is preceded in his journey to the next phase by his father Abraham, mother Maria, brothers George and Leonard, and cherished animal family members Henrietta, Poindexter, Esmeralda, Whitey, Blacky, Theodore, and Walter. He is survived by many who love him, including:  long time partner, Sandra Moeller; brother Peter Alvarez and his family; sister Liz Long and her family; and sister Gabriela Alvarez and her family. He is also survived by his many animal family members, including Shadow, Digby, Horace, Quattro, Lola, Crystal, Harley, Tick Tack, Princess, Roller, Cornelius, and his beloved Roscoe.
