Charlie Chitchjian was 96 when he passed away on February 21, 2018 with his family at his side.
Charlie was born in Fresno, November 10, 1921 to Pete and Satenig Chitchjian. He graduated from Roosevelt High School and continued on to Fresno State. He later served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. Upon returning home following military service Charlie embarked on his restaurant career at The Mars Drive-In in 1947, and from there came the Ranch Kitchen, The Carriage Houses and finally Charlie’s which he operated until 1987 at which point he went to work for the Fresno Convention Bureau for 19 years before retiring. Charlie was an avid golfer until he was 92.
In addition to his parents Charlie was preceded in death by his sister Mary Avakian. Charlie leaves behind his adoring wife of 70 years, Madeline, his daughter Debi Haymond, his son Chuck Chitchjian and by two grandsons, Chase Haymond and his wife Laura and Blake Haymond.
Charlie was deeply loved by his family and will be missed by many.
A Memorial Service will be held at Pilgrim Armenian Congregational Church, 3673 N. First Street, Fresno, Saturday, March 17, 2018 at 11:00 AM
Remembrances may be made to the Donor’s Favorite Charity.
