Tribute

Carolyn Jacobsen Sansiñena
Carolyn Sansiñena, 79, passed away on Monday, April 23, 2018, in Fresno, CA. She was born in Coalinga, CA on March 10, 1939 to Carrol and Julia Jacobsen. She was raised in Fresno, Ca and was a proud member of the Fresno High graduating class of 1957. In 1962, she married the love of her life, Jose Sansiñena and made their home in Madera, CA.

Carolyn was a bookkeeper at Forehand-Sutton Motors until 1974 when she retired to be a homemaker. Carolyn volunteered at St. Joachim School and helped with registration and tuition. She also volunteered at St. Joachim Catholic Church on Monday mornings. She was a member of St. Joachim Church, the Madera Coyote Booster Club and a member of the Fresno Basque Club where she served as Secretary for several years. Carolyn was extremely proud of her entire family. She was proud of who she was and from where she came. She was the family historian and took great joy in spending countless hours doing research on both sides of her family and Jose’s family. She was extremely proud of the fact that she traced the Serrano family lineage back to the 1400’s and was able to share it with her cousins. Growing up, family get-togethers were a commonplace for the Serrano family. Carolyn made sure that those family get-togethers continued by hosting Easter for 80-90 yearly. She loved her family!

Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Jose, and her brother Thomas Jacobsen. She is survived by her son Joseph Sansiñena and Emelda Venegas of Madera, and her daughter Julie Rodriguez and her husband Robert of Fresno. She is the beloved Amatxi of Brooke Rodriguez. She is also survived by her brother James Jacobsen of Diamond Bar, CA. and her sister-in-law Diane Jacobsen of Fresno, her aunt Benita Garcia of Fresno, her nephews Todd Jacobsen and his wife Laila and Scott Jacobsen and his wife Kristi, her nieces Kirsten Markarian and her husband Scott and Allison Garcia and her husband Eduardo, her brother-in-law Antonio Sansiñena of Spain, sister-in-laws Rosario Oyenhart and Asuncion Baptiste both of France, and numerous beloved cousins.
