Carl Wilson Rollins, Sr. passed away on September 27th, 2020 at the age of 90. He was born in Smith County, Tennessee on December 15, 1929. He moved to Madera with his family when he was a child. He attended Eastin-Arcola and Lincoln grammar schools, and graduated from Madera High School in 1948. He met the love of his life, Delores, in high school and they married not long after on July 27, 1948. Throughout the 50’s, he and his brother Don drag raced with the Madera Clutchers. Carl won many drag races behind the wheel of the “Tinker Toy”.
Carl and Delores had two sons, David and Carl Jr. He raised them to love the outdoors by fishing, hunting, and camping. He continued these traditions with his grandsons every summer by taking them to Greys Mountain and Rock Creek.

Carl had an Atlantic-Richfield service station in Madera in the 60’s and 70’s. He and Delores moved up to Mariposa in 1975, where he took care of transportation for the Mariposa School District until he retired and moved back to Madera in 1993. He devoted a lot of his time to the Madera Baptist Church. For the past many years, you could see him driving around town in his straw hat behind the wheel of his red Ford Model T that he refurbished himself.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Delores Rollins; his daughter-in-law, Brenda Rollins; and his son, Carl Rollins.
