Callie Mae Jones

Callie Mae Jones, age 97, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 17, 2019 in Fresno, California. Callie was born on July 15, 1922 to Acton and Verbelia Harris in Arkansas. Callie was a resident of Madera for over 65 years, where she was a missionary and advocate of the Sunrise Church of God in Christ and was known by many as “Mother Jones”. Callie loved to sew all sorts of things. She was also known for her famous bookmarkers that she enjoyed making for everyone, as well as the delicious homemade jam she would have her family help make.

Callie was preceded in death by her parents Acton and Verbelia Harris, her husband Leon Jones, daughters Leona Horton and Barbara Simpson, son Walter Jones, and all of her brothers and sisters.

Callie is survived by her son Cecil and his wife Idella Jones of Madera, three daughters Versie Brinagh of Madera, Josephine Grave of Altadena, and Evelyn Bellinger of Madera. Callie also leaves behind 18 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, and 16 great-great-grandchildren.

A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, November 22, 2019 at 2:00 PM at Jay Chapel in Madera. Interment immediately following at Arbor Vitae Cemetery in Madera.
