Barbara (Bobbye) Martin
It is with great sadness that Bobbye’s family announce her passing on Sunday, June 21, 2020, at the age of 91 in Fresno, CA.
Bobbye was born in Madera on August 25, 1928 to Resto Montanari and Ada Stefanelli-Montanari. She was a lifelong resident and graduated from Madera Union High School with the class of 1945. She attended college in Fresno and married Al Martin on May 22, 1949. They had four children: Michele (Shelley), Rodney, Jeffrey and Robert (Tony).
Bobbye and Al moved to Fresno in 1955 and to Evansville, Indiana in 1960 when Al was transferred by his employer. They returned to Madera in late 1962 and reopened the Valley Market, which was previously owned and operated by Bobbye’s parents. The store closed in the late 60’s. Mom then worked for Paul Jones and later for her parents at the Big Top Drive In. Upon its closure, Mom worked for her sister and brother-in-law, Gay and Jack Johnson, at the Sub Shop and Deli. Mom spread her wings, surprised us all, and went to work for Bank of America as a teller until her retirement. Imagine using a typewriter and computer! Following retirement, she lived on her own until age 89, riding her exercise bicycle and cooking, caring for, and spending time with family and friends.
Bobbye is predeceased by her parents, her husband Al, son Rodney and brother Bud. She is survived by her daughter, Michele and husband Gilbert Carter; daughter-in-law Doris Martin; son Jeffrey and wife Anne; son Tony; sister Gay. She also leaves behind four granddaughters, two-step granddaughters and was a Bisnonna to two great grandsons.
Mom will be greatly missed but we find comfort in knowing that she is now at peace and with her loved ones who predeceased her.
We would like to thank all Mom’s friends and family for their love and support through the years. Also, much thanks to the owner and staff from Nina’s Home where Mom resided since late April and St. Agnes Hospice. Their loving care and support to Mom and our family was more then we could have ever asked for. You were angels in our time of need.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, June 24, 2020 from 5 PM to 7 PM at Jay Chapel. Private Family Services will be held at St. Joachim Catholic Church.
Donations in remembrance of Mom can be made to your favorite charity or St. Agnes Hospice, 6729 N. Willow Avenue suite 103, Fresno, CA 93710.
