Alta Jones passed away peacefully on Monday, February 10, 2020 in Madera, California. She proudly celebrated her 100th birthday just last summer. Born on July 13, 1919 to Jacob and Barbara May in Campbell, Nebraska, she lived in Madera County for over 90 years.
Alta was the cafeteria manager at Dairyland Elementary for over 21 years and was well known for her outstanding meals and warm friendly personality.
She was a devoted member of Saint Columba Church in Chowchilla and was an active member of the Altar Society. Throughout her life, Alta enjoyed knitting, gardening, cooking, camping, hiking, traveling and family gatherings, the bigger the better.
Alta was preceded in death by: Lloyd Jones her husband of 52 years, son Richard Jones, sister Laura Thompson and grandson Brian Jones.
Her surviving family members include her children, Eugene Jones and wife Jaqueta of Marana, Arizona; Judy Linhares and husband Ken of San Ramon; Daniel Jones and wife Jo Anne of Red Bluff; and her sister Velma Hansen of Madera. She will be sorely missed by her 10 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 9 great-great grandchildren.
Donations may be made in honor of Mrs. Jones to the donor’s favorite charity.
A visitation will be held on Monday, February 17, 2020 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm with rosary beginning at 6pm at Jay Chapel in Madera.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, February 18, 2020 at 10:00 am at Saint Columba Catholic Church in Chowchilla. Interment will follow at the Chowchilla Cemetery.
