March 1, 1929 ~ November 19, 2020 (age 91) 91 Years Old

Tribute

Alfred (Al) Cunha, of Fresno, Ca., passed away on November 19, 2020, at the age of 91 years old.  He was born in Tulare, Ca., on March 1, 1929, to parents Antonio and Senhorinha Cunha.  The family later moved to Hanford, Ca. where he lived until he left to serve in the Army, during the Korean War.  After returning from Korea, he relocated to Fresno, and soon after, married his sweetheart Ruth Santos in 1953.  Together they raised five children, which led to 8 grandchildren, and eventually 9 great-grandchildren.

Al was a lifelong farmer, a hard worker, and always preferred to do things his own way.  He began with a modest business and grew it into a comfortable life for his family.  He enjoyed traveling in his motorhome with his wife and several of their good friends. Al was a member of the Saint Judes Catholic Church in Easton, Ca, and he was active on the board of the C.P.D.E.S. Hall for many years. During that time, you could always find him in the bar, selling sodas and beer at the Portuguese Celebrations. He was always happy with the life that he had, and would often say that he had everything he wanted or needed.

He spent the day before his passing sleeping peacefully; his wife and family at his bedside.  He was preceded in death by his brothers Tony and Leonard Cunha, sister Evelyn Mendonca, sons David and Dan Cunha, and grandson Dustin Cunha.  He is survived by his sister Alice White and husband Tony, and his loving wife of 67 years, Ruth Cunha.  He is also survived by his son Doug Cunha and wife Kathi; Duane Cunha and wife Heidi, and daughter Debby Cunha, as well as his remaining grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
