Tribute

Adolfo Abel Magaña Gutierrez was born on September 27, 1924, in Sugar Pine, California, in the Sierra National Forest, to the late Ezequiel Ramirez Gutierrez and Saturnina Maria Magaña Gutierrez. Our dad passed away Friday morning, May 4, 2018, at the age of 93 in a Fresno California hospital. He attended the original Lincoln Elementary and graduated from Madera High School in 1946.

Adolfo proudly served our country in the U.S. Army, during World War II in the Pacific Campaign, in the Battle of Leyte, with 24th Infantry, the Victory Division. For his service, he was awarded the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, World War II Victory medal, and the Philippine Liberation Medal.

After his returning from his service, he attended Four C’s College where he studied accounting. He worked for 23 years, for American Forest Products, also known as “General Box” until his retirement to his “ranch”. Dad enjoyed the ranch as his hobby, as he did with bowling, singing in the St. Joachim’s choir with his siblings and parents, playing Solitaire and playing the piano. He was a parishioner of Saint Joachim’s Catholic Church, member of the Knights of Columbus, Young Men’s Institute, and the V.F.W. 1981.

He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, Joseph, Carlos, Isidoro, Ezequiel Jr., Raphiel Gutierrez, and 3 sisters, Esther Ayala, Ramona Rodriguez Coats, and Antonia Garza.
He is survived by his wife, Ana Maria Arroyo Gutierrez, his children, Hector and his wife Linda, Patricia “Trish” Gutierrez, all from Madera, Arthur Gutierrez, Michael and his wife Adela, from Fresno, and Cynthia “Cindy” and her husband Gilbert Lopez, from Sacramento, Ca. He is survived by his grandchildren, Renee Gutierrez, Estevan Gutierrez, Brittany Gutierrez, Brooke Gutierrez, Stefanie Gutierrez, Laurel Gutierrez, Isaac Gutierrez, G. Samuel Lopez, Juliana Lopez, and Matthew Lopez, and by one great grandson Karmelo White. Dad is survived by one sister, Sister Theresa Carmel Gutierrez, C.S.J. of Los Angeles, Ca., and one brother, Carlos “Charlie” Gutierrez (Linda) of Sacramento, Ca. He leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the medical staffs of the ICU units at Veterans Administration ER and hospital, and Central Regional Medical Center for the care and comfort of our father, and for the long care by Dr. Pall and Portia Cavera, R.N., for his primary care.
