Henry Simental Quijada, born on September 20, 1939, in Madera, California, remained rooted in his hometown for 84 years. He is survived by his sisters Caroline “Tia Carol” & Bud Noether of Fresno, California, Maria "Tia Bennie" & Dan Skeens of Nenifee, California, “he loved his mijas” and Brother Ralph “Tio Rafa” Quijada.

Henry's endearing words, "Over the Mountains across the sea," were a testament to the enduring love he shared with his high school sweetheart and first wife, Rita L. Silva. Their bond spanned 15 years, marked by love, friendship, and mutual respect. Even after parting ways romantically, their connection remained strong, as Rita continued to support Henry and their children as well as his extended family with unwavering thought.

Henry's unconditional love extended not only to his own children and family but also to his many nephews and nieces, who cherished him deeply. His presence in their lives brought warmth, guidance, and a sense of belonging, leaving an enduring mark on each of their hearts.
All of whom shared in the richness of his life.

Henry Simental Quijada's journey began among the fields, where he worked alongside his family, bravely fought fires, and contributed to the construction of three dams in the Central Valley. His diverse career included roles as a construction worker, dedicated service for the City of Madera, and entrepreneurship, as he became the proud proprietor of multiple establishments: three esteemed restaurants, a taco truck, and the renowned Montana Bar & Restaurant. Known for his culinary skills, everything Henry cooked was a culinary delight, with specialties including Menudo, nopales and eggs, Chile verde, Costillas, Barbacoa, his legendary Macaroni salad and Beef Stew. His culinary legacy transcended generations, leaving an indelible mark on all who savored his creations.

An avid supporter of the Green Bay Packers and lifelong enthusiast of the NFL, Henry found joy in cheering for his beloved teams alongside his daughters, Aurora Hernandez and Myra Alvarez, relishing the exhilaration of live games.

In the recreational activities of Madera, Henry participated in the local baseball league, where he, his friends and his brothers-in-laws formed their own team called the Derby’s. Following in his footsteps, his daughters Evelyn, Lala, Rosie, and Josie pursued softball, while his son Henry Ray excelled in baseball.

Henry delighted in attending the local parades of downtown Madera, witnessing his daughters Rosie and Josie showcase their talents as baton twirlers for the Madera Valley Twirletts.

Notable among his family's athletic achievements were the flag and dance performances by his daughter Aurora Hernandez and great-granddaughter Alyssa Maldonado at MHS.

Each birthday and special occasion was celebrated with a trip to the casino, where Henry indulged in his favorite pastime, always relishing the thrill of a victorious night. Can’t forget his favorite spots at The Village, Perkos, and Yummy Yummy Donuts they were more than just places to him; they were cherished local establishments where he found comfort, enjoyment, and perhaps a little indulgence. These places held special memories and added richness to his life, making them an integral part of his story.

Henry had a passion and sight for his collection of treasures, from antiques to coins, comic books and baseball cards, each item a testament to his keen eye for value.

For 24 years, Henry shared a profound bond with his beloved wife, Cecilia Quijada, alongside step-daughter Vanessa and Mario Rodriguez, step-daughter Janet DeLeon, and their 8 step-grandchildren, as well as his faithful four-legged companion, Peanut.
